hello and thanks for fox 10 news at 9:00 start now. good evening, everyone. thanks for joining us tonight. first on fox, it is an unprecedented move, samsung galaxy note 7 smartphones are now banned from all u.s. airplanes. >> yeah, those phones they have been known to catch fire and explode. that ban goes into place tomorrow. you won't be able to take them on to airplanes. stefania okolie is live at sky harbor airport with details and what passengers are saying out there. stefania? >> yeah, marc and john, i can tell you that a lot of the passengers that we spoke with this evening said this is a pretty good move by the f.a.a. and the department of transportation. i was looking all over to try to find someone who had a galaxy
9:03 pm
couldn't find anyone. most people have already gotten rid of it or sent theirs back. tomorrow there could be good news for airports across the nation. we are told people will not be allowed to bring it on the plane and if they try to could face serious consequences. the samsung galaxy note 7 has proven to be a dangerous device, burning more than a dozen people across the nation, nearly a hundred have overheated, some tuesday, the south korean manufacturer decided to stop all production of the galaxy note 7 for consumer safety. the f.a.a. wants them off all planes permanently as well. passengers seem to think it's a good idea. >> yeah, i think it's a good. absolutely, no, you cannot travel with this. >> taylor had a bit of concern. >> she was like, oh, my gosh,
9:04 pm
safe. i looked it up and was like, no, mom, i'm good. thanks. >> passengers can't put it in carry-ons or checked baggage. officials say it's too dangerous. passengers tonight are saying they agree. >> leave them at home leave them at home. >> reporter: yeah. officials say that they have had it. turning them just won't do anymore. you have to leave them at home. now we are told that anyone who tries to bring the phone or if they're caught with the phone, they could face fines and even prosecution. now, coming up at 10:00, i'll tell you what passengers tell me airlines were telling them this evening to warn them about what's going to be happening tomorrow as well. for now, that is the latest here in phoenix.
9:05 pm
fox 10 news. who would ever have thought that bringing your cell phone could get you fined by the federal government to get on an airplane. craziness. well, samsung is expected to take a very big hit from the galaxy note 7 debacle, companies expected to lose more than $5 billion. to counter, samsung says they will try to push sales of their galaxy s series with prices. this happened during a 29-minute trip from northern command a station, that's at 3rd street and union hills to the southern command station south of downtown phoenix. the woman's ex-husband claims that he told police that she was suicidal and that officers were negligent. >> there were four police officer police cars in the cul-de-sac, and so we saw they were taking away somebody but we
9:06 pm
call at this home. they say a 39-year-old woman tried to stab her ex-husband and slammed the door on an officer's arp -- arm. she was taken into custody. her ex-husband tells fox 10 that she came to see her children and was unstable. he told officers that she was suicidal and had recently gotten out of the hospital for a drug overdose. she also spent time in a psych that he say she slipped out of handcuffs, made a noose out of shoelaces, tied the other one to a vent and hanged herself. officers discovered the woman at the southern command station 20 miles away. >> it affects the officers too, the ones that actually discovered her and tried their best to implement the lifesaving measures. >> police say there is no separate implementation transport procedure for suspects that are suicidal.
9:07 pm
investigating to see if there is anything else that we could learn to do differently. >> the family does not believe she will survive. the woman's ex-husband now is looking into legal action against the phoenix police department. in a developing story tonight, a woman is killed and several other people are without a place to live right now after a fire at an apartment complex. the flames broke out early this morning right here 19th avenue and dunlap. there was a 50-year-old woman who was pulled from the burning building. she died at the hospital and one complex engulfed in flames, three others have heavy smoke and water damage. >> the whole complex was all smokey. i come outside my apartment, and it was all covered in smoke. >> it was pretty bad. it was black in the back. you could see it. outside the acadia door it was coming out and going up. >> the red cross is helping out those whose homes were damaged.
9:08 pm
point that it was suspicious. remember this fire last thanksgiving, the buffalo chip restaurant in cave creek went up in flames, the saloon is getting ready to reopen, the new structure will be connected to parts that survived the fire. people even donated for a wall of relics lost in the fire. it will reopen tomorrow at 6:00 p.m. look right there. >> oh, my gosh! >> oh, my go! house. get in the house. >> it's going away from us. >> i know. >> it's okay. >> boy, and all of the language was so nice. >> right, made for tv. >> by golly. >> we didn't have to bleep anything. now, if this was my video, there would be some bleeping going on. >> marc has a duct tape in his video.

town of manzanita, oregon, nobody was hurt but one woman says the storm blew out all of the windows in her home. >> those are god fearing people in that house. they handled it well. >> they did. this tornado, part of a big storm system slamming the northwest, strong winds, heavy rains coming with it. it could get worse this weekend. kristy siefkin joins us now with a check of the weather. a little early, but there's a lt going on out there. >> bringing the rain, the gusty winds, tornados, and then we remnants of typhoon songda, not hitting the united states but just the remnants of that system. take a look at this, gusts of 80-100 miles an hour. this is the remnants of a
9:10 pm
possibility, as we have already seen, flooding, mudslides, and that storm surge is going to be significant. we are looking at waves up to 30 feet tall, and the rainfall totals as a result of this system, pretty significant. we start out saturday evening with totals maybe a half an inch to a few inches. as we get into monday night, we are looking in some areas, two and a half to seven inches, these areas of red, yellow, and orange, a foot plus of rain. i'll have more information on the storm system little bit later on in the show. before president obama is out of the house, we will have cuban cigars in this country. that's my prediction. >> that was a local cigar shop owner back in july, talking about restrictions on cuban cigars in the united states. it turns out his prediction was right on the mark. today, the obama administration announcing it is getting rid of the $100 limit on cuban rum and cuban cigars that americans

nation. so now you can bring back as many as a hundred cigars and several bottles of rum, which is what you've all been waiting to do. it's part of many changes to loosen the trade embargo on cuba. that same local cigar shop owner that we talked to earlier this year says that this will create a huge boom in business. >> all of these 50 years, people have been hearing about cuban cigars, and they are now curious to see what they taste like, so they are all going to try to come in and get some cigars. >> high-end cuban cigars can sell for more than a hundred dollars a piece outside of cuba. a long awaited and controversial attraction called dolphinaris arizona will open tomorrow. it's near scottsdale. skyfox giving us a look at the new place, where people can swim with the dolphins. the dolphin pools hold a million gallons of purified sea water. that facility says the dolphins were born in human care and that they receive excellent

believe that dolphins do not belong in the desert, well, they plan to demonstrate tomorrow right outside. coming up tonight, you know you'll be voting on recreational marijuana in november, and weeks before the election, a cannabis boot camp comes to the valley. we check it out. >> and speaking of the election, have you had enough? well, you're not alone. and you won't believe what psychologists are having to do to help people who are stressed out by this election. but first, it's a pretty scary place,he haunted house, not the place where you would think someone would propose, but they did. tonight, love is in the air, and did she say yes?
9:13 pm
z23w6z z5yz
9:15 pm
well, you get a lot of proposals around the holidays. that's pretty typical. but what about halloween? popping the question on halloween, that can be kind of nerve wracking, really, but young man decided to get down on
9:16 pm
girlfriend this evening at the s you might have guessed, things did not go quite as planned. danielle miller is live from the 13th floor to tell us their story with what happened here, danielle. >> reporter: yeah, it was definitely interesting out here tonight, guys. when most of us think of a haunted house, we don't typically think of love or romance, but for one valley man, he said this was his idea of romance, and he decided to pop the especially since it was their two-year anniversary. it's that time of year again, hundreds of people making their way to haunted houses to be spooked by goons and goblins. one man decided to propose to his girlfriend at the 13th floor haunted house where he used to

>> reporter: it was set in the graveyard where it was supposed to happen. >> babe, babe, babe. come on, come on! >> reporter: but plans changed. after brianna became so afraid of the zombies that she ran and fell off the stage. >> i need a light, guys. >> reporter: none of us knew what was happening when the room became silent. >> baby, baby, baby! come on, come on. look it, look it. >> i feel -- i feel . >> i fell. >> look at me. >> reporter: come to find out that the proposal was going on as planned. >> look at me. are you okay? baby, will you marry me?
9:18 pm
>> very surprised, especially since i fell off the stage. it was definitely unique, too. >> and the good news here, guys, she was not hurt, and she did, in fact, say yes. now, we asked the couple if they have any plans for a date or anything like that, but they are just saying it's way too early to tell. so tonight they are going to take it easy and celebrate with some pizza. reporting live, danielle miller, fox 10 news. >> wow, all is well that end well, i guess >> oh, man, i was sweating bullets during that. >> me too. >> i didn't know what was going on. >> that is one to remember. that is for sure. well, it's a new record over at the arizona state fair. more than 54,000 pounds of canned goods donations elected for st. mary's food bank on the fair's first we care wednesday. pthat's more than double the amount of food collected in the first week of the fair last year. every wednesday everyone who

from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. will get free admission to the fair. cardinals play the jets on monday, kickoff set for 5:15, so the freeways will be busy during the afternoon, after the game as well. drivers using the freeway wes of downtown phoenix and the loop 101 may want to give themselves extra time from the drive, and if you're heading into the game from north scottsdale or phoenix, you may wan consider taking the loop 101. that's always a good route. or there's the couch option. watch the cardinals jets game on monday on my45, our sister station. kickoff is at 5:15, and then you can join us for analysis and highlights on fox 10 right after the game. >> it's going to be a good one, and speaking of the cardinals, it's been a common theme for the cards so far this season, not good.
9:20 pm
zero points in the first quarter. the cardinals with all of that talent on offense, not being able to score? we check in with larry fitzgerald, fitz weighs in on what's going on in the first quarter. interesting stuff coming up later in the show. it's definitely been a warm week so far. we are in fall though.

9:24 pm
drivers will need to exit on to stapley. so avoid that area if you can. and a state of emergency is issued for washoe county, nevada. the little valley wildfire is burning out of control tonight as you can see in this video here. nearly 20 buildings have been destroyed by the flames. so far 2000 acres have burned. people in the area are being told to leave, roads shut down, a very the cause of the fire is not determined right now. and it's beginning to look a lot like fall in northern arizona. take a look at these beautiful pictures of the fall foliage sent to us by some of our fox 10 viewers. we thank you for these pictures. they are stunning. the run on the left taken in flagstaff, the one on the right taken in the white mountains. wow. look at that. your exclusive accuweather forecast with kristy siefkin on fox 10 news.
9:25 pm
it's beginning to look a lot 3 like fall, pause, in northern arizona, because it does not look like it here in the valley. it's been so warm out there, and today another round of those 90-degree temperatures. still at 80 at this hour, the good news is it's nice and calm out there, very different picture than what we are seeing in the pacific northwest, that storm system continuing to bring very heavy rain, in addition to those gusty winds, and we have got, like i said, that 1-two punch, and another active weather saturday into sunday. this cold front, as it does brush northern arizona, is not really going to do too much for our forecast. we'll see a slight drop in temperature, but all in all what we are looking at is a very stable, dry air mass over the desert southwest, and tonight we are still pretty warm in yuma and in lake havasu, both in the 80s, just below the 80-degree mark for bullhead city, up into kingman, low 60s, low 64 in
9:26 pm
as well, still some 80s on your board in glendale and sky harbor, and 74 degrees up into deer valley. today, if you thought it was a warm one. >> well, it was. we were at 96 degrees, 17 above the norm. back the only outlier is yuma, with coast. the national picture is relatively quiet with the exception of what is going on in washington and oregon. we are getting some activity into the intermountain west as a result of that first low moving through, snow showers into parts of idaho, wyoming, into parts of montana, otherwise just a line of thunderstorms making its way into parts of the southeast. but at this hour, you can see it's really falling apart and dissipating for sure. arizona is looking great overnight, we'll see 40s for
9:27 pm
douglas at 48, overnight at gobe 56, 44 for winslow, st. john's you'll be at 42, and then tomorrow temperatures similar today, maybe a degree or two cooler in some spots, 80s for kingman, we'll see 95 in gila bend, 90 for douglas, bullhead city you'll top out at 94 degrees. nice and clear out there tonight, and we'll continue to be clear into tomorrow. cooling into those mid-60s, and then into your saturday morning, very pleasant, and we'll see 95 as we warm up into the afternoon. that low-pressure system brush the state will help us cool down a few degrees as we get into the start of the work week >> all right, kristy, thanks. you can get your weather alerts and check your weather forecast 24/7 using our free fox 10 weather app. again, it is free. >> yeah, kristy doesn't work 24/7. i know that you guys think she is constantly in the salt mine grinding it out here, but she's
9:28 pm
sometimes it seems like she is. >> she needs a little bit of time off. >> always, just a little bit. still ahead, an unusual choice for the state of arizona, what a survey says about our state's favorite halloween candy, and it's one that probably is not top of mind, so we are questioning the whole thing. >> survey says, i thought you were going to launch into richard dawson over here. >> just wait, just wait. and the rumors are false. metro center is not being torn down. what the mall's plan to do with this space instead. >> and it's been on the air now for nearly three decades, a staple on fox 10, the simpsons celebrating a major milestone

the southwest cannabis talking marijuana, the southwest cannabis conference comes to the valley just weeks before the general election when aizona voters will decide whether to legalize recreational marijuana. >> yeah, in fact, there's a cannabis boot camp during this weekend's conference, and our steve krafft went to check it out. >> reporter: this is what's going on today. it's something called the cannabis boot camp. all kinds of information for people who want to get into the legal marijuana business. but the cannabis boot camp seminar, a sober discussion for people who want to get into the legal marijuana business, hosted by a denver based company.
9:32 pm
grow it, all of your questions can be answered in one place. if you walk into any of the rooms, you can see these young professionals, business people, moms. >> we came here to see about a business model for marijuana use, and also because we know that there's some medicinal benefits for the patients to take care of. >> you're a doctor? >> i'm a cardiologist. >> so you're a heart doctor? >> yes, i'm a heart doctor. >> other people attending say they are inter science of growing marijuana legally because they see it as a crop that's here to stay. >> we generally get treated like dirt by the state, by law enforcement. and we get treated like drug addicts. it's time for that to stop. >> reporter: the companies also featuring their products, like baked bros, which produces thc syrup and gummies.
9:33 pm
syrup and gummies, the syrup gives people the ability to determine their dose, important as with any medication. >> organizers expect thousands of people to attend, the event goes through sunday. in phoenix, steve krafft, fox 10 news. another woman has come forward a with sexual misconduct allegations against donald trump. sh says the republican presidential nominee touched her during a meeting in los angeles. instead of going to a restaurant, she was brought to trump's room at the beverly hills hotel. >> i stood up, and he came to me and started kissing me open mouthed as he was pulling me towards him. i walked away, and i sat down in a chair. he was on a love seat across from me, and i made an attempt at conversation. he then asked me to sit next to him. i complied.
9:34 pm
began kissing me, again, very aggressively. >> she was a contestant on season five of the apprentice, and she's one of several women who have come forward now with this type of allegations, but donald trump denies the claims. >> the stories are total fiction. they are 100 percent made up. they never happened. they never would happen. i don't in with very many people, but they certainly aren't going to happen with me. >> he says his accusers are seeking fame and money. in the meantime, hillary cinton dealing with scandals of her own, more fallouts from the leaked wikileaks e-mails today, one of the latest leaks showing the calculated political

trans-pacific partnership, something donald trump has hit her hard for in the last debates. after today, hillary clinton will be taking a break from campaigning to prepare for next week's debate. and that debate happens fittingly in las vegas, the site of so many memorable prize fights. they will have it right there. it's fitting. it's a perfect way to conclude this almost nightmarish presidential campaign. i own steve krafft to provide live coverage, and you can bet the wikileaks e-mails and the small misconduct allegations will all be on the table as part of the debate. this is the third and final debate before election day, november 8th. maricopa county sheriff joe arpaio is running for a 7th term. a recent poll has him trailing challenger paul penzone, and
9:36 pm
rnning against the legend. >> the people love to be entertained, and they find sheriff arpaio entertaining. so this is a crazy line of questioning. >> but it's fair. >> but do you sit there and think, how do i compete with that, a cult of personality? >> the first thing that i tell anyone who asks that is that i want to lower the volume, quiet the noise. you know what i want to say? the men and women to every day, the detention facility workers, deputies, employees, for them to take all of the noise down and say we are going to become fundamentallily sound and give this organization and community something to be proud of, so when we travel anywhere, we are known to treat people with respect and dignity, but if you break the law and come here and hurt somebody, we are going to be very serious about holding you accountable
9:37 pm
>> joe arpaio in the most difficult election of his career. penzone narrowly lost back in 2012 in a threeway race, if you remember. one of the last navajo code talkers died this morning, born in 1922. he served in world war ii on four pacific islands, including iwo jima. in 1942, he heard the armed forces were recruiting but he couldn't pass the physical. two years later he volunteered again, and this time he passed, and he became a code attacker attached to the 4th marine division. following the war, he was a sheep herder. well, among other things, it was a backdrop for several scenes from the movie bill and ted's excellent adventure. remember that? there's no doubt metro center in phoenix has had a long, memorable story here in the
9:38 pm
metro center has fallen on hard times and in disrepair. sears is the only deartment store still open, and many of the department stores inside the mall are still empty. but good news tonight, despite rumors that the mall was going away, it is not being torn down. that is false. they are not tearing down metro center according to the owners. in fact the owners have plans in the works to redevelop the property, and this is what the mall may actually look like in the future. you se in that rendering there, and so we will see some changes out at metro center. but this walmart, already under construction. there's a plan to put in more residential office and medical space. the carlisle group bought that mall in 2012 for about $12 million and the city has already improved some of the zoning changes necessary to make improvements. well, it's been a staple on
9:39 pm
weekend the 600th episode of that show will air. >> they never age. >> but it ages me. i remember when it went on the air. it's a milestone for the series, and the executive producer explains a lot has changed. >> we recorded on physical tape. we didn't have digital audio. we had microsoft word, but we didn't have google. would have to send somebody to a bookstore to get material. so theoretically, the show should be much better than ever. >> all right, john, we'll see how far back you go. do you remember the tracy allman show on fox? >> yes, i do. >> do you remember these shorts that would play? that's how the simpsons got started. >> how about 21 jump street, do you remember that? >> oh, yeah, sunday nights were big around my house when i was that age.
9:40 pm
and still are. the 28th season of the simpsons will be starting, the 600th episode will air right here on fox 10. coming up after the break a valleyman who beat cancer meets the person who saved his life. and a consignment store suddenly closes down with many people's items inside, people left wondering how they will get we'll explain. and it's friday. you can finally rejoice. what does mother nature have in store for us though? kristy siefkin back in a moment with your wake up weather after

9:44 pm
meet tim at an event called celebration of life, which raises awareness of woen -- bone marrow donation. >> i wanted to donate no matter what, and when i found out he was my age, it put everything into perspective. instead of worrying about getting to class on time, going out, his worries were a thousand times more than mine. >> i found out that i got a donor, well, atlas no longer had to hold up the sky. it was just a huge weight that i longer had to care. >> he's doing well and goes to the doctor every month for follow up care. a glendale consignment store closes its doors and a lot of people are upset because they have not been able to get their belongings and get them back. the owner could not negotiate a new property release, so monday
9:45 pm
but that left a lot of people hanging in the lurch. this is the place where it is, and full of people's belongings and they hope to have them sold there. now they don't know what they are going to do. those people say they found out that the store was closing simply through word of mouth and social media but they have not heard from the owner directly. ad today an employee opened the store so people could grab their belongings. we were not able to get a hold of the owner. in the meantime, an employee will be to 2:00 tomorrow. you can go pick up your belongings if you wish. drivers, you might want to listen up, we have got a recall for u another one that's pretty big, honda now pulling back around 350,000 of its civics here right here in the u.s. apparently the electronic parking brake could turn off when the car isn't running. and you could be paying more at the grocery store and sooner than you think, wholesale food

rise in things like vegetables and eggs. now we know what your kids like to buy at the mall, because according to a new survey, teenagers are spending a lot of their money on sneakers, jeans, and beauty products when they go shopping. i don't know if that's the order. and get this, overall spending for teens is down slightly from last year. that's business. i'm neil cavuto. well, you have got a beautiful weekend ahead of you. it's going to still be a warm and we are going to be in the 90s by the afternoon. tonight, cooling down nicely as we get into those overnight hours, continuing to see those 70s dip into the 60s, finally as we get into the 5:00-hour. hopefully you're not up that early. but if you are, you'll get to enjoy some 60s, for you early
9:47 pm
you're going to be seeing 70. by tomorrow afternoon, wickenburg the lucky city on the map, just below the 90-degree mark. guys? >> so on friday night, you don't have hangover weather just in case? oh, at 10:00. >> yep, yep. >> save that one for later. >> i thought i saw the map back there hiding. i didn't know what that was for. coming up next in the talkback, we are tal >> hasn't it been unbelievable? it really has been. and arizona's favorite halloween candy, it may not be at the top
9:48 pm
9:50 pm
it's time for tonight's talkers. all right. tonight's talkers, we get going right now with politics. >> yeah, first up, it's not a big surprise this presidential election, it has a lot of people really stressed out about what's going on. in fact, the american psychological association found that more than adults, regardless of which party they belong to, feel very or somewhat stressed out by this election, and that puts it up there, the number of 50%, with other stressors in your life, more personal things, like the economy, money, or work, and this is interesting, the demographic feeling it the most, seniors, followed by millennials. so they tips to destress about all of this, limit media consumption. >> no, no, no. don't do that. that means us.
9:51 pm
digital break. also, avoid discussions with other people if you think they are going to escalate into conflict. >> okay, marc, honesty time. >> okay. >> has there been stress in your life with people close to you because of this election? >> there has been, yeah, there has been a little bit. >> really? >> because, you know, everybody is passionate about the way they feel about this. so i have personally kind of taken a step back and put myself in a bubble. >> i know. >> i try not to engage in a lot of the of silence, truly market one, put it on your head and you can tune everything out. >> i have seen a lot of facebook, people defriending each other. >> november 8th can't come soon enough. we are nearing halloween. according to a state by state survey conducted by influencer, the most popular halloween candy
9:52 pm
it. toblarone, not snickers or m&ms or reese's? >> i don't think i have ever had a toblarone put in my candy bag. maybe they are sponsored by toblarone. >> maybe. okay. we are done talking. your turn to talk back. we'd love to hear from you. send us your thoughts on facebook. john hook >> and marc martinez fox 10. >> i love toblarone. i love that stuff. i would go trick or treating pr. i never got that stuff. i'm with marc. i always got the cheap stuff. that's some good stuff. tootsy pops and an apple. come on, man, it's halloween. it's been a trick or treat kind of year for the arizona cardinals. one week, they look great, one week they don't look great.

9:56 pm
it's hard to believe the cardinals of all teams with zero points in the first quarter. think of all of the weapons they have on offense, palmer, fitz, david johnson, john brown, michael floyd. week one, they barely had the ball. the patriots played keep away. week two, the boys again out of synch, no points in the first quarter. buffalo, bad all around, palmer under pressure all day. he threw four intercepon keep starting off so slow. fitz knows the team needs to get off to a fast start on monday night. >> we put such emphasis on that. coach arians does a good job of scheming our first 15 plays, we can play them in our sleep, and we need to execute those. we have been getting to third and manageable, this is what you need to get to, a lot of third
9:57 pm
